Our Trip Home

Well our trip to Texarkana went well.  We visited with family and friends and said goodbye to one of the greats.   On our trip back to Alpine, Troy wanted to take the boys to the historic downtown Stock Yards in Fort Worth.  If you are ever close, it is well worth the stop.  We ate at Risky's, visited with "wild Bill Hickok"  and quickly went thru a couple of the shops.  Then we were off again for another 8 hours.  Here are a few pics:

Alpine Avalanche

HA!  Me and my big self  (along with my Bunco buddies) made the local paper for our "Moms on the Move" Relay for Life team!  Walking "the loop" (2 miles) once or twice  everyday in hopes of losing a few pounds!  Walking it in 30 minutes:)

IN OTHER NEWS....
Alpine is considering negotiations with the continental baseball league.  In other words, there is a possibility that the Texarkana Gunslingers would be coming to Alpine to play ball!  How crazy is that!  We of coarse would LOVE it, but there are a lot of hoops to jump through in a short period of time.  The school district owns the field and there is a lot of legal issues to deal with.

History lesson:  Herbert Kokernot Jr. loved baseball and in 1946 started the Alpine Cowboys, a semi-pro team that went to the national finals nine times.  In 1947 Kokernot field was opened in Alpine Texas as the home of the Alpine Cowboys.  Over one million dollars was spent to build the stadium.  The infield soil was purchased in Georgia and transported by train to Alpine.  From 1947 through 1958 the Alpine Cowboys fielded the best in semi-professional baseball, winning a dozen regional titles and the runner up to the national championship.  TODAY the field is used by the Sul Ross Lobos and the Alpine HS Bucks.

DESERTED?!?

Most people who rent these duplexes, have to store stuff in the garage.  So on a usual day, there are at least two cars in each driveway.
This week is spring break....
I think we are the only ones who stayed!

Snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails

Yesterday the boys were outside playing and found a horned lizard ( horny toad).  And being boys, they had to bring it home.  Christian told us that they squirt blood from their eyes, we all laughed .....  We looked it up and this is what we found:   At least four species are able to squirt an aimed stream of blood from the corners of the eyes for a distance of up to 5 feet.  You would think we knew by now to believe him - they boy is smart and remembers what he reads and studies.
